While industry used to be the main consumer (still accounting for almost 46% of the total volume), other players are now coming to the fore.
Construction has become the absolute record holder, increasing electricity consumption by 45.3%. It is followed by transport and communications, which consumed 36.4% more than a year earlier. This was facilitated by the development of logistics and digital infrastructure.
Hotels and restaurants added 32% — a clear indicator that the service sector in Kyrgyzstan is developing. Trade is not far behind, with a 21.6% increase in energy consumption. Every new shop and shopping centre means more shop windows, air conditioners and refrigerators, which now consume more electricity.
Agriculture increased its consumption by 11%, accounting for more than 22% of the total electricity used.
Against this backdrop, industry unexpectedly consumed 2.2% less electricity.
