Toraga of the Jogorku Kenesh held talks with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon

Today, 16 September, Toraga of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu met with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon.

During the meeting, they discussed issues related to expanding political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between the republics, as well as strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu conveyed greetings from President Sadyr Zhaparov to Emomali Rahmon.

«Bilateral state visits by heads of state contribute to strengthening good-neighbourly and friendly relations, as well as promoting the development of inter-parliamentary ties. My official visit to Tajikistan today is a vivid confirmation of this. Now the legislative bodies of the two countries need to support the agreements reached and help to implement them successfully», — said Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu.

He also stressed that the border issue was resolved thanks to the political will of the heads of the two states.

«This step has undoubtedly contributed to stability not only in the two neighbouring countries, but also in the region as a whole. We need to continue to expand our partnership in all areas, especially in the economic sphere. If we manage to achieve our goal in the near future and bring the volume of trade to $500 million, it will contribute to the development of both countries. Kyrgyzstan, as a gateway to the Eurasian Economic Union, is ready to assist Tajikistan in entering a large market», — added the toraga.

In turn, President Emomali Rahmon said that Tajikistan attaches particular importance to the development of established historical ties and is interested in cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in all areas.

Emomali Rahmon noted that the development of trade and economic ties is a requirement of the times and stressed the need for effective work in this area.

In addition, he stated that inter-parliamentary dialogue is the basis of partnership.

«I am confident that your official visit will give impetus to Kyrgyz-Tajik relations», — Emomali Rahmon said.

In addition, the parties exchanged views on expanding cultural and humanitarian ties and jointly implementing environmental initiatives.
