One in two sheep lacked documentation: findings at the market in Kemin

At the livestock market in Kemin, inspectors uncovered widespread violations: some of the animals were missing ear tags, microchips and accompanying documentation. More than 20 head of livestock were barred from sale and sent back.

The inspection took place on 24 May at the new livestock market in the Kemin district of the Chui region. The monitoring was carried out by staff from the veterinary and phytosanitary inspection service. According to the deputy head of the regional administration, Mukhamed Duvanayev, around 30% of cattle and 60% of sheep and goats were found to be without the necessary documents.

Inspectors checked for the presence of tags, chips and veterinary certificates, as well as the market’s sanitary conditions. Despite the identified violations, the sanitary conditions of the market itself were deemed to meet the requirements.

The market in Kemin began operating at the end of January following the closure of the livestock market in Tokmok. Animals are now being brought here not only from the Chui region, but also from Naryn and Issyk-Kul. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, around 1,000 horses, 1,000 head of cattle and more than 3,000 sheep and goats have already been delivered to the site.

The Ministry of Agriculture has warned that spot checks will continue to be carried out at all livestock markets across the country.
