A sharp deterioration in air quality has been recorded in Bishkek

The latest IQAir data indicates that air quality in Bishkek remains a concern. On November 16, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 157, which is classified as “unhealthy.”

This level indicates that prolonged exposure can be dangerous, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and people with pre-existing health conditions.

The main pollutants in Bishkek are fine particulate matter (PM2.5), with levels more than three times the World Health Organization's recommended limits.

The main sources of pollution are coal combustion for heating and vehicle emissions, which increase during the colder months.

However, as the weather changes, improvements are expected on November 18, the air quality index (AQI⁺) is forecast to improve to 29.
