In Bishkek, some homes have been allowed to use electricity for heating. In the regions, the limit remains in place

In Bishkek, only residents of 276 blocks of flats will be able to increase their permitted electricity supply capacity from 5 to 7 kW. This applies to buildings that lack central heating, gas heating or other forms of heating, meaning residents are forced to heat their flats using electricity.

As explained, such buildings are fitted with single-phase electricity meters. In winter, residents use electricity not only for domestic purposes but also for heating, which significantly increases the load on the grid. Raising the limit should provide them with the necessary conditions to heat their homes.

However, other residents of Bishkek and the regions, including those in blocks of flats without other forms of heating, will not receive such an increase. For them, the limit will remain the same — 5 kW. The issue of increasing the permitted power for similar categories of consumers in the regions was also not considered.
