05/19/2025, 13:12On May 17, a large shipment of imported equipment for modernizing the energy infrastructure arrived in Kyrgyzstan. This is part of the Energy Sector Modernization Project (ESMP) implemented with the support of the World Bank.
The total cost of the supplies is $58 million, of which $33 million is a grant and $25 million is a concessional loan. The supplies include smart meters, transformers, cable products, and SIP wires.
To date, 281 transformers with a voltage of 10(6)/0.4 kV have been delivered to the country, of which 124 are destined for Bishkek and 157 for Osh. Ten 35 kV transformers are also ready for shipment. Of the 100 km of 6-10 kV cable, the entire shipment is already in the country, and 3 km of cable has been installed in Bishkek. In addition, 72.2 km of self-supporting insulated wire (SIP) has been installed out of the 233 km planned for commissioning.
The implementation of an electricity metering system is also actively progressing: out of 500,100 smart meters, almost 194,000 have been delivered to the country, of which more than 113,000 have already been installed. The project aims to improve the efficiency of energy supply, reduce losses, and replace outdated infrastructure in Bishkek, Osh, and other regions.
