07/31/2026, 14:32The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov, has signed a law amending the Labour Code and the Law ‘On State Pension and Social Insurance’.
According to the document, polling day for the election of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and members of the Jogorku Kenesh will be recognised as a public holiday.
Employees will retain their average daily earnings for that day, provided they can confirm that they have voted.
Should employees be required to work on election day, pay and working conditions will be governed by the provisions of the Labour Code relating to work on weekends and public holidays. In such cases, the provision regarding the retention of average daily earnings for the polling day will not apply.
Furthermore, the law provides that the Cabinet of Ministers may establish additional benefits and privileges for citizens who provide proof of having voted.
Amendments have also been made to the Law ‘On State Pension and Social Insurance’. The day on which citizens vote in the presidential and Jogorku Kenesh elections has been included in the list of periods taken into account when determining entitlement to a pension.
Law No. 136 was signed on 28 July 2026 and comes into force on the date of its official publication. The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to bring its decisions into line with the new provisions within three months.
