11/05/2026, 10:05Kyrgyzstan plans to develop technical guidelines for growing medicinal plants included in the list of agricultural crops. The preparation of these documents was discussed at a working meeting attended by representatives of the National Academy of Sciences and the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University.
For farmers, a technical guide serves as a kind of instruction manual for the future harvest, explaining how to prepare seeds, when to sow them, how to care for the plants, water them, and harvest and store the raw materials. It was precisely these stages that the meeting participants examined while discussing the introduction of medicinal crops into agricultural production.
The recommendations suggest developing these charts separately for each plant, taking into account its biological characteristics, as well as soil and climate requirements. This should provide producers with scientifically sound guidelines for growing such crops.
Following the meeting, experts agreed to prepare proposals for developing technical guidelines and to continue their work. The report does not specify the timeline for preparing the documents or the list of plants for which they will be developed first.
Earlier, Kyrgyzstan enacted legislation permitting the agricultural cultivation of medicinal plants. These include valerian, calendula, sage, saffron, licorice, chamomile, and lavender. The law aims to promote the production, processing, and sustainable use of medicinal plants.
