Cafes and restaurants in Kyrgyzstan will be prohibited from charging a mandatory “service fee”

On January 1, 2026, a government decree will come into force in Kyrgyzstan prohibiting cafes and restaurants from including a mandatory “service fee” of 10-15% in their bills.

This was announced by Akylay Kozhomberdieva, head of the Department of Antimonopoly Policy, Competition Development, and Pricing at the Ministry of Economy.

According to the document, starting next year, catering establishments will not be able to charge a separate service fee—it must already be included in the cost of food and beverages.

At the same time, visitors are not prohibited from leaving tips—at their own discretion.
