Kyrgyzstan wants to increase payment for alternative service

Kyrgyzstan plans to increase the amounts paid by citizens performing alternative service instead of military service, as well as those participating in mobilisation reserve training.

The reason is that salaries in the country have increased almost 2.5 times since 2017. At that time, the average salary was about 14,300 KGS, and now it is almost 36,000 KGS. Therefore, the contributions set in 2017 have become too low.

Those who are doing alternative service for family reasons currently pay 18,000 KGS, and it is proposed to increase this to 25,000 KGS.

For people with health restrictions, the amount will increase from 25,000 to 40,000 KGS.
For those who are performing alternative service due to religious beliefs or performing socially useful work, the amount will increase from 25,000 to 50,000 KGS.
Contributions for participants in the mobile reserve will also increase from 50,000 to 75,000 KGS, and for those preparing to become reserve officers, from 70,000 to 90,000 KGS.
In addition, it has been proposed to increase fines for violations of military registration in order to reduce corruption.

The Ministry of Defence says that these changes will not require additional money from the budget and will help make the military service system more fair and modern.
