Kyrgyzstan May Revise Rules Governing Retirees’ Employment in Schools

At a meeting with residents of the Ala-Buki District, President Sadyr Zhaparov proposed considering changes to labor legislation to free up more jobs for young professionals.

During the meeting, one resident complained that employees of retirement age continue to work and occupy positions that young professionals could otherwise fill.

A representative from the education sector explained that it is not possible to dismiss a teacher solely because they have reached retirement age. The Labor Code protects employees, so changes to the law would be required to free up these positions.

According to the ministry representative, some schools have teachers over the age of 65, and certain employees continue to teach until the age of 70.

Zhaparov proposed discussing the issue with members of the Jogorku Kenesh and preparing the necessary legislative changes.

However, no information was provided during the meeting regarding a specific bill or the timeline for its adoption.
