Commercial banks account for the bulk of the loan portfolio — over 539.6 billion KGS. A further 70.7 billion KGS was issued by credit institutions.
The highest level of lending activity is traditionally recorded in Bishkek. In the capital, the volume of loans exceeded 301 billion KGS, which is significantly higher than the figures for other regions of the country.
Next in terms of lending volumes are the Chui Region (38.5 billion KGS), the Jalal-Abad Region (51.4 billion KGS) and the Issyk-Kul Region (33.7 billion KGS). The lowest levels of lending were recorded in the Naryn Region – 14.6 billion KGS – and the Talas Region – 16.2 billion KGS.
It is noted separately that the banking sector’s structure continues to include a negligible share of loans from banks whose licences have been revoked and organisations in the process of liquidation – less than 100 million KGS.
Experts attribute the concentration of lending in Bishkek to high levels of business activity and the concentration of business and financial infrastructure in the capital, whilst the regions continue to gradually increase their access to borrowed funds.
