Kyrgyzstan has imposed a six-month ban on the import of a number of building materials. What is covered by the ban

The Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers has imposed a six-month ban on the import of certain building materials. The restrictions apply to building blocks and bricks, tiles, glass, as well as certain types of cables and wires.

The decision was signed by the Prime Minister, Adylbek Kasymaliev.

The list of goods prohibited from import includes:

• building blocks and bricks made of lightweight concrete, cement and artificial stone;
• paving slabs and facing tiles;
• certain types of tiles and similar products;
• cast, rolled, drawn, blown and thermally polished glass;
• cables with aluminium and copper conductors;
• self-supporting insulated wires.

The Cabinet explained that the temporary ban had been introduced to protect domestic producers, stabilise the domestic market and ensure economic security in the face of competition from imports from third countries.
