A pilot programme for pasture management is planned in the Naryn region

The Veterinary, Livestock Development, Pasture and Feed Service plans to implement a pilot project for pasture management in the Kyrgyz Republic, using the Naryn region as an example.

This was announced by the deputy director of the service, Ishenbek Almametov, during a seminar on ‘Improving the condition of pastures and their rational use.’

Pasturelands in Kyrgyzstan are a key resource for agriculture, especially animal husbandry. In the Naryn region, which has the largest pasture areas in the country, the threat of pasture degradation has been increasing in recent years due to harsh climatic conditions, high mountainous terrain and increased pressure on pastures. In this regard, the new concept is aimed at the sustainable and efficient use of pasture resources.

The aim of the concept is to ensure sustainable use of pastures in the Naryn region, reduce degradation processes, restore pasture resources and increase livestock productivity, which will contribute to improving the socio-economic situation of the rural population.

The concept is based on the principles of sustainability, community-oriented management, transparency, scientific validity and digitalisation.

The concept also proposes to allocate 100% of the revenue from pasture fees exclusively to the development of the pasture sector, as well as to create a specialised legal entity – a state pasture enterprise (or a special pasture fund). This mechanism will ensure financial independence, targeted use of funds, transparency and sustainability of management.
