11/18/2025, 16:20Against the backdrop of continuing pressure on the consumer market, Bishkek is launching a series of food fairs, which will be held on weekends until June 2026. The initiative aims to stabilise prices for basic foodstuffs and give city residents access to social goods without intermediaries — directly from farmers.
The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry in conjunction with the capital's mayor's office on the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobayev. The decision followed several weeks of discussions on price dynamics and consumer complaints about the rising cost of essential goods.
The fairs will be located at key city sites:
According to the organisers' plan, residents will be able to buy vegetables, fruit, dairy products and other basic goods at prices that should be significantly lower than market prices. The participation of producers is strictly regulated: products must be clean and of high quality, and prices must be socially oriented. Farmers will need a letter of confirmation from the district agricultural administration.
