The residential complex has drawn attention to the risks associated with the improper disposal of medical waste

At the session of the Jogorku Kenesh on 10 June, MPs raised a number of issues relating to the management of household and medical waste.

MP Bekmurza Ergeshov drew attention to the situation at the landfill site in Osh. According to him, the matter requires close monitoring by the state authorities. He proposed exploring the construction of a waste processing plant, which would reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill and improve the efficiency of its disposal.

Pending the implementation of such a project, the MP called for ensuring proper sanitary and epidemiological conditions at the existing landfill and taking measures to minimise environmental risks.

Special attention was paid to medical waste during the meeting. MP Rakhat Zhunushbaeva stated that tenders for the collection and processing of medical waste are often won by companies that lack the necessary resources and experience to carry out such work.

According to her, some firms fail to comply with established requirements for the handling of hazardous waste, which creates additional risks to the environment and public health. The MP also highlighted the lack of adequate oversight of medical waste disposal in private clinics.
