The project also provides for the construction of pavements, bus stops, underground pedestrian crossings, street lighting in populated areas, the reconstruction of bridges and the installation of arched gutters.
The contract was signed by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications with the general contractor, China Road and Bridge Corporation (PRC), as part of the implementation of the ‘Project for the construction of the Issyk-Kul ring road, from the village of Barskoon to the city of Karakol, a section with a length of 75 kilometres’. This project is being implemented with financial support from the Asian Development Bank.
According to the project, the existing two-lane road will be widened to four lanes with the addition of median dividers. The project also provides for the construction of sidewalks, bus stops, underground pedestrian crossings, street lighting in populated areas, the reconstruction of bridges and the installation of arch-shaped gutters.
The general consortium has been tasked with urgently starting work on preparing the site, identifying quarries and mobilising labour and equipment for the project site. Construction work on the project site is scheduled to begin at the end of May this year.
