According to the National Statistics Committee, by the end of 2025, Kyrgyzstan’s exports had fallen from $5.1 billion to $2.85 billion, whilst imports rose to $12.97 billion. This negative trend has continued into 2026: in January–February, exports amounted to $173 million compared to $183.6 million a year earlier (–6%), whilst imports increased to $642.9 million compared to $636.2 million (+1%). This widens the gap between exports and imports and points to pressure on the country’s external position.
The sharp decline stands out particularly starkly against the backdrop of previous growth. Between 2022 and 2024, Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade turnover grew steadily, peaking at $17.6 billion.
