08/17/2026, 15:20The Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration has clarified the working arrangements in Kyrgyzstan on 31 August and 1 September.
Kyrgyzstan’s Independence Day, celebrated on 31 August, is a non-working public holiday under the Labour Code.
An employee may be required to work on this day only with their written consent and the consent of the employees’ representative body. An exception is made for organisations with a continuous production cycle, services providing public services, and for the carrying out of urgent repair and loading/unloading work.
Work carried out on 31 August must be compensated in one of three ways:
Furthermore, under a Cabinet of Ministers decree dated 10 July 2026, 1 September has been declared a day off for staff of state-funded organisations based in Bishkek. Their average daily earnings will be maintained.
For private organisations in the capital, granting staff a day off on 1 September is recommended.
