05/03/2026, 13:27According to figures for January–February 2026, Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade turnover stood at $2.1 billion, with the bulk of economic activity continuing to be concentrated in the capital and the Chui Region.
Bishkek remains the leader with $1.3 billion in trade turnover, accounting for around 62% of the country’s total. However, imports significantly exceed exports. In second place is the Chui region with a turnover of $231.4 million, also with a pronounced trade deficit.
Among the regions, the highest growth in foreign trade turnover was recorded in the Naryn Region (+58.2%), the Issyk-Kul Region (+21.5%) and the Jalal-Abad Region (+21.2%). Despite this growth, their share of the country’s total trade remains relatively small.
The Osh region shows a decline in total trade turnover against a backdrop of falling exports, whilst the Talas region is seeing growth in imports alongside more moderate export trends.
The industrially active districts of the Chui Region and the cities of republican significance – Osh and Bishkek – stand out, recording the highest trade volumes but remaining heavily dependent on imports.
Overall, the structure of Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade remains highly centralised: the bulk of the trade is concentrated in the capital and the Chui Region, whilst the regions demonstrate local growth but do not yet exert a significant influence on the overall picture of the country’s foreign economic activity.
