The antitrust service has taken action against restaurants due to sharp price increases

The sharp rise in prices in cafes and restaurants in Bishkek has attracted the attention of the state. The Antimonopoly Regulation Service held a meeting with representatives of the catering industry and warned entrepreneurs about the inadmissibility of unreasonable markups.

The reason for the discussion was the increase in prices in a number of establishments by more than 15%. This coincided with the entry into force on January 1 of new requirements prohibiting the charging of separate fees for service, table setting, and food delivery. Now all costs must be included in the price indicated on the menu.

During the round table, chaired by the head of the service, Zhenaly Orozbayev, participants were reminded that the amount on the check cannot exceed the cost of the order according to the price list. Any hidden payments are considered a violation of consumer rights.

Cafe and restaurant owners, in turn, explained the price increase by rising costs. According to them, rent, utilities, fuel, food, equipment, as well as employee salaries and the tax burden have increased.

Nevertheless, the antimonopoly service emphasized that economic difficulties cannot serve as an excuse for sharp and unjustified markups. The state intends to ensure that pricing remains transparent and fair for visitors.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed on measures to stabilize the situation. Catering establishments intend to optimize prices and introduce discounts of up to 10% on orders and takeaway.

In addition, the HoReCa Club Association has undertaken to prepare an analytical report on the state of the market, which will form the basis for the development of additional mechanisms to contain prices.
