Automatic property tax: what you need to do to avoid problems

The State Tax Service has announced the launch of an automated property tax calculation system, a measure provided for by recent amendments to the Tax Code.

Now, according to the new rules, property tax will be calculated and paid by the tax authorities at the location of the real estate or land plot, without the need for citizens and organizations to file tax returns.

To transition to the new model, the State Tax Service is conducting a large-scale technical configuration of the automated system, which should make the calculation process simpler, more accurate, and more convenient for taxpayers.

In order to correctly calculate tax liabilities for 2026, the Tax Service recommends that individuals and legal entities check the data in their title documents against the information held by the State Agency “Cadastre” in advance.

Citizens need to check the accuracy of the following information:

  • the owner's TIN;
  • surname, first name, patronymic, or name of the legal entity;
  • area of real estate and land plots;
  • purpose of the properties;
  • shares of ownership;
  • registration dates and other parameters specified in the documents.

The agency emphasizes that timely verification of data will help avoid errors in automatic tax calculation and eliminate possible discrepancies in the future.
