If Telegram does not combat drug bots, Pavel Durov may be placed on a wanted list — opinion of a member of parliament

Deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed serious concern in his Telegram post about the use of social media and messaging apps for criminal activities in Kyrgyzstan and called for more decisive action against these platforms.

He pointed to the existence of popular bots on Telegram that openly sell drugs. According to him, users receive photos of ‘bookmarks’ with the location of drugs through the bots. He expressed surprise that law enforcement agencies (the State Committee for National Security and the Ministry of Internal Affairs) have not yet taken action against the messenger, suggesting that Telegram could be considered an ‘accomplice to drug trafficking.’

The MP believes it is necessary to crack down on such bots, even going so far as to put Telegram founder Pavel Durov on the wanted list if the platform does not cooperate.
He also reported that he had filed complaints about a deepfake video posted on Facebook, but the content has not yet been removed, despite the platform's rules. In this regard, the MP proposes to develop approaches to digital security and interaction with international IT companies at the state level.

Dastan Bekeshev believes that platforms should moderate content related to obvious crimes, such as drug trafficking and fraud, and be held responsible for its distribution. He called for the issue of cooperation with social networks and messengers to be addressed ‘in a tough manner’ to prevent crime.
