Bishkek Joins Central Asian Coalition of Cities for Disaster Risk Reduction

Bishkek has joined the Central Asian Coalition for Sustainable Cities, which helps cities prepare for floods, earthquakes, and other hazardous events. The Kyrgyz city of Manas has also joined the coalition.

The decision was announced on October 19–20 at the Second Regional Dialogue on Sustainable Cities in Tashkent. Along with Bishkek and Manas, Isfara, Fergana, and Kokand have also become participants.

The coalition was established at the initiative of the United Nations Development Program and the Center for Emergency Situations and Natural Disaster Risk Reduction. It enables cities to exchange experiences, develop practical solutions for risk reduction, and incorporate climate threats into long-term development planning.
