07/30/2025, 08:10After 25 years of operating in the Kyrgyz financial market, the Bishkek branch of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has officially ceased operations. According to the order to terminate registration published in the Ministry of Justice register, the final date of closure of the branch is 24 June 2025.
The bank had been operating in Kyrgyzstan since 2000, and its initial registration dates back to 9 August 1999.
The decision to withdraw from the Kyrgyz market was made back in 2020 as part of a global strategy to wind down operations in Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
Not only the divisions in Kyrgyzstan were closed, but also those in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. As explained by NBP representatives, the withdrawal was due to a review of business priorities in favour of other regions.
Thus, on 28 February 2021, the bank recommended that customers complete their settlements and transfer their funds. On 19 June 2024, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan revoked the branch's licence. And already in 2024, the voluntary liquidation procedure was initiated. Nurgul Kasygulova was appointed as liquidator. As a result, on 24 June this year, the termination of activities was officially registered.
We would like to add that as of September 2020, the branch's assets and liabilities amounted to approximately 1.8 billion KGS, of which 976.8 million KGS were deposits of citizens. All unclaimed accounts were closed unilaterally and the balances were transferred to Ayil Bank, as required by law.
