Blogger Ilya Varlamov has become a payer of the ‘Google tax’ in Kyrgyzstan

Blogger Ilya Varlamov has appeared in the register of foreign organisations registered in Kyrgyzstan as VAT payers for the provision of electronic services.

The blogger was added to the State Tax Service’s list on 2 September 2026. Hong Kong is listed as the country of registration.

There are now a total of 94 payers of the so-called ‘Google tax’ in the public register. This status relates to VAT on electronic services provided by a foreign supplier to customers in Kyrgyzstan, and does not imply that all of the blogger’s income in the republic is subject to taxation.

The expansion of the list of taxpayers comes against a backdrop of a significant increase in revenue. Between January and August 2026, VAT on electronic services provided by foreign organisations generated 1.27 billion KGS for the budget. A year earlier, during the same period, revenue stood at 775.2 million KGS.

Thus, revenue rose by 495.4 million KGS, or by 63.9 per cent. The entire amount has been credited to the national budget.

However, Ilya Varlamov’s registration took place in September, so it did not affect the statistics for January–August.
