More than 1 million school textbooks for schools in Kyrgyzstan are still in the process of being delivered

In Kyrgyzstan, nearly 3.7 million copies of textbooks, workbooks and teaching guides were produced in 2026; however, by 21 September, only around 2.46 million had been delivered to schools. More than 1 million copies are still in transit.

The situation regarding the supply of textbooks to schools was discussed at a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, Adylbek Kasymaliev.

This year, 744 million KGS have been allocated from the national budget for the production of educational materials. A further 16.2 million KGS were allocated by the Ministry of Education through the reallocation of its own funds. In total, it was planned to produce 3,668,600 copies of teaching materials with this funding.

By way of comparison, in 2025, 855 million KGS were allocated to teaching materials. At that time, schools received around 4.74 million copies of teaching and learning resources.

The meeting also addressed the issue of teaching materials found on open sale in markets. According to Kasymaliev, law enforcement agencies are conducting an investigation. Based on the findings, the authorities have promised to take “tough measures”.

The Prime Minister also announced that, following a decision by the President, the necessary additional funds would be allocated to provide schoolchildren with textbooks.

The Ministry of Education has been instructed to speed up the development, production and delivery of textbooks, as well as to monitor the availability of textbooks in schools on a monthly basis. This work is being carried out as part of Kyrgyzstan’s transition to a 12-year school education system.
