More than 60% of the minimum subsistence level in Kyrgyzstan is spent on food

Food accounts for the largest share of the minimum subsistence level in Kyrgyzstan — more than 60% of expenditure for virtually all social groups. This is evidenced by official statistics.

For the entire population, the share of food expenses is about 65%, another 17% is spent on services, and the rest is spent on non-food items and taxes.

The structure is similar for the working-age population: 61% of expenses go to food, 19% to services, 17% to non-food items, and about 3% to taxes.

Pensioners are most dependent on food expenditure, which accounts for about 70% of their subsistence minimum. For children, this figure is about 71%, with a lower share of non-food goods and services than other groups.

The data show that food expenditure remains a key item in the structure of the subsistence minimum, and any fluctuations in food prices directly affect the standard of living of the population.
