Over 70% of youth internship participants found jobs — Ministry of Labor and World Bank summarize pilot results

The Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration of Kyrgyzstan, together with the World Bank, summarized the results of a pilot project on youth internships implemented as part of the “Strengthening Social Assistance Programs and the Labor Market” program.

The project results were monitored on January 14. Representatives of the parties visited the Muras branch of Eldik Bank and vocational school No. 98 in Bishkek, where they discussed the practice of internships and subsequent employment of unemployed youth.

According to the Ministry of Labor, the pilot was launched in 2024 in 30 cities and towns across the country.

During the implementation of the program, 1,851 young people were sent for internships in state and private organizations, 72% of whom are already employed. Thus, the program has demonstrated a high level of effectiveness in involving young people in the labor market. Eldik Bank became one of the most active partners in the project.

After completing their internships, 65 of the 78 participants were offered permanent jobs at the bank.

The World Bank noted that such initiatives are key to reducing youth unemployment and help young people overcome the main barrier to employment: lack of practical experience.

The bank, in turn, emphasized that internships allow employers to train personnel for the real needs of the business, and program participants have the opportunity to secure their first job. The former interns themselves noted that it was their participation in the project that launched their professional careers.

In addition, the pilot program includes a vocational training component. With the support of the World Bank, vocational school No. 98 is offering training in accounting (1C). After completing the courses, students will also be sent to commercial banks for internships.
