Most payment system failures in the Kyrgyz Republic are caused by problems on the service providers' side

In the first quarter of 2025, the National Bank recorded 65 irregularities in the operation of payment systems, and almost half of them — 46.15% — were related to errors on the part of service providers. This is stated in the regulator's report on monitoring the state of the financial infrastructure.

Almost another third of the failures (29.23%) were caused by technical malfunctions of equipment, including hardware and software systems and peripheral devices. Communication channel failures accounted for 13.85%, and power outages for 10.77%.

Despite the recorded incidents, there were no serious consequences. All failures were promptly eliminated, and no financial losses or impact on market participants were recorded.

The National Bank notes that the level of operational risk remains under control and the service availability ratio is high. Thus, in electronic interbank payment centers, it was 100%, and in card payment systems, it was 98.41%.
