We may be forced to ban them– Bishkek mayor comments on scooters in the city

Mayor Aibek Junushaliev has stated that Bishkek may have to introduce a ban on scooters if the situation regarding their use cannot be brought under control. He made this statement during the ‘Open Office’ event.

According to the mayor, the problem lies not with the scooters themselves, but with the lack of a culture of responsible use. Junushaliyev gave the example of seeing a woman riding a single scooter with a child, and also complained about cyclists and scooter users who do not dismount at junctions.

“If we do not find a unified solution today and bring order to this system, we will be forced to resort to a ban. For the sake of order and the health of our citizens,” the mayor stated.

He also criticised the lack of preventive measures by the authorities and inspectors, noting that offenders should not only be fined but also be made aware of road safety rules.
