09/04/2026, 13:45A campaign to legalise vehicles with foreign number plates came to an end in Kyrgyzstan on 1 September. As part of the campaign, 5,531 vehicles were legalised. This was reported by the State Centre for Vehicle Registration.
Of the total number of legalised vehicles, 4,870 have an engine capacity of up to 2 litres, whilst a further 661 have an engine capacity of over 2 litres.
As previously reported, owners of cars with engine capacities of up to 2 litres were required to pay 50,000 KGS for legalisation, whilst owners of cars with engine capacities exceeding 2 litres were required to pay 100,000 KGS.
According to calculations, owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 2 litres paid a total of 243.5 million KGS, whilst owners of vehicles with engine capacities exceeding 2 litres paid 66.1 million KGS. Thus, the total revenue from the legalisation process amounted to 309.6 million KGS.
It should be recalled that the first campaign to legalise vehicles with foreign number plates took place in Kyrgyzstan from 1 April to 1 October 2025. At that time, more than 30,000 vehicles were legalised, and over 1.8 billion KGS was collected for the budget.
However, citizens who had not managed to legalise their vehicles last year appealed to the authorities to grant them another opportunity. As a result, from 10 July to 1 September, they were granted a further – and final – deadline for legalising their vehicles.
However, only vehicles with foreign registration numbers, imported into Kyrgyzstan before 31 December 2024, were eligible for legalisation.
