Four state enterprises breed New Kyrgyz horses - Torobayev

In Kyrgyzstan, four state-owned stud farms are engaged in breeding thoroughbred New Kyrgyz horses: Talas, Naryn, Kok-Bel and No. 54. However, systemic problems remain unresolved in the industry - there is no single coordinating body and there is an acute shortage of specialists in the field. This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Water Industry Bakyt Torobaev during a visit to the stud farm “Center for the development of ethno-culture, equestrian industry and thoroughbred horse breeding” in Cholpon-Ata.

According to Torobaev, haphazard crossbreeding of animals leads to loss of genetic potential and worsens breeding qualities. He also noted that breeding technologies in Kyrgyzstan are still far behind international standards.

Nevertheless, he said, scientific research is underway to improve breed characteristics.

Earlier, the “Center for the Development of Ethnoculture, Equestrian Industry and Purebred Horse Breeding” and horse breeding farm No. 54 were transferred from the Ministry of Culture to the Ministry of Agriculture
