01/12/2026, 13:27In January–August 2025, Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade deficit amounted to $6.8 billion, which is $97 million less than in the same period of 2024, according to the macroeconomic forecast of the Eurasian Development Bank.
Exports during this period decreased by 23.7% compared to last year. The main reduction is due to a 30.1% decrease in shipments of base metals and a 12% decrease in re-exports of land transport equipment.
Imports also declined by 5.2% to $8.1 billion, primarily due to a reduction in purchases of machinery and equipment.
Thus, the decline in the deficit is more likely to be related to a fall in imports and exports of certain commodity groups than to an improvement in the structure of foreign trade.
