08/28/2026, 17:05In Kyrgyzstan, average monthly household expenditure on food in January–March 2026 reached 3,540 KGS per person. At the same time, total household expenditure amounted to 8,118 KGS per person, according to data from the National Statistical Committee.
Thus, expenditure on food accounted for around 44 per cent of total household expenditure. The same figure was recorded for January–June and January–September 2025, and for 2025 as a whole — also 44 per cent.
Over the year, average expenditure on food rose by 617 KGS, or 21.1 per cent. Total household expenditure increased by 1,445 KGS, or by 21.7 per cent.
By way of comparison, in the first quarter of 2024, food accounted for 42 per cent of total expenditure. In 2023, the figure stood at 45 per cent in January–March and 42 per cent for the year as a whole.
The food affordability ratio is calculated as the ratio of households’ average monthly expenditure on food to their average monthly total expenditure. The higher the ratio, the greater the proportion of a family’s income that must be spent on food.
