03/19/2026, 15:34According to official data from the National Statistics Committee, the share of the shadow economy in Kyrgyzstan’s GDP stood at 3.8% at the end of 2024, down from 4.5% a year earlier.
At the same time, the total volume of the unobserved economy (including the hidden and informal sectors, excluding agriculture) continued to grow, reaching 308 billion KGS. In relative terms, this figure stood at 19.5% of GDP, compared to 19.2% in 2023.
The share of informal production activity in the household sector increased to 15.7% compared to 14.7% a year earlier.
As noted in the statistics, in the long term, the growth rate of the unobserved economy has generally lagged behind GDP growth. However, in 2021 and 2024, the opposite situation was observed — growth in the shadow sector outpaced the economy as a whole.
