By the end of 2024, renewable energy sources (RES) accounted for 92% of all new generating capacity commissioned worldwide. This indicates the de facto dominance of ‘green’ generation in new energy investments.
A key factor in this growth has been the falling cost of technology. Since 2015, the cost of solar generation has fallen by 70%, and that of wind generation by 55%. This has made RES competitive with traditional energy sources even without subsidies.
Investment in the sector also remains high: in 2024, it amounted to around $2.2 trillion.
Against this backdrop, global capacity installation trends show steady growth, reflecting a structural shift towards low-carbon energy.
