Two historic buildings in Bishkek have been removed from the list of monuments of republican significance

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan has recognised two architectural heritage sites in Bishkek as lost: the building of the former Tuberculosis Institute and the building of the Republican Eye Clinic.

The relevant amendments have been made to the state list of historical and cultural monuments of republican significance, approved by Government Decree No. 568 of 20 August 2002.

The following have been given ‘lost’ status:

  • the Tuberculosis Institute building, constructed in 1949, located at 90 Akhunbaev Street;
  • the Republican Eye Clinic building, constructed in 1939, located at the junction of Moskovskaya Street and Togolok Moldo Street.

Both sites were previously listed as architectural monuments on the state register.

The decision was taken as part of amendments to the procedure for the registration, protection, restoration and use of sites of historical and cultural heritage. The Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution will come into force ten days after its official publication.

It should be noted that Sadyr Zhaparov had previously signed decree, which opens up the possibility of transferring to investors not only state-owned buildings but also the land plots on which they stand.
