Two border checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border have been designated as international, and one now operates 24 hours a day

The operating rules for key border crossing points on the Kyrgyzstan-Kazakhstan border are changing. President Sadyr Japarov has signed a law ratifying a protocol that updates the agreement between the two countries.

The main change is the expansion of border crossing options. The “Kamyshanovka” border crossing has been renamed “Tömönkü-Chuy,” its status has been upgraded to international, and its operating hours have been extended to 24 hours a day, instead of the previous daytime-only schedule.

Another checkpoint, “Kichi-Kapka,” has also been granted international status, meaning it can be used not only by citizens of the two countries but also by foreigners.

Authorities expect that these changes will lead to an increase in cargo and passenger traffic, the development of tourism, and improvements to border infrastructure.
