04/04/2026, 15:09In January 2026, Kyrgyzstan’s trade turnover exceeded $1 billion, yet exports fell sharply whilst imports continued to rise.
According to data from the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, the total volume of foreign and bilateral trade in January amounted to $1.05 billion, 2% higher than the figures for the same period in 2025.
Exports fell by 20.3% to $126.8 million, whilst imports rose by 6.1% to $926.1 million. In the trade structure, imports accounted for 88%, and exports for just 12%.
Trade with countries in the Eurasian Economic Union accounted for 37.7%, whilst countries outside the Union accounted for 62.3%.
The decline in exports against a backdrop of rising imports is exacerbating the external trade imbalance and putting pressure on the foreign exchange market.
