A further 500–600 Chinese workers will be brought in to help build a waste-to-energy plant in Bishkek

There are plans to bring in a further 500–600 workers from China to build the second phase of the waste treatment plant in Bishkek. This was announced by the capital’s mayor, Aibek Junushaliev.

According to him, the workers will be accommodated on the construction site. Once the work is completed, they will leave Kyrgyzstan.

“A further 500–600 people will be brought in for the construction of the second phase. They will all be accommodated on the plant’s construction site and will leave once the construction work is complete,” said the mayor.

Djunushaliev added that around 500 Chinese workers were involved in the construction of the first phase. They have already left the country following the completion of that phase.

According to the mayor, $95 million was earmarked for the first phase of the project. This phase has now been completed. The cost of the second phase will amount to $230 million — it is planned to build a plant with twice the capacity as part of this phase.

The mayor described the waste-to-energy plant as one of Bishkek’s largest and most significant projects being implemented with Chinese investment.
