FAO will help Kyrgyzstan develop value chains for trout and carp

An international expert mission is currently underway in Kyrgyzstan as part of a project to develop sustainable value chains in the fisheries sector. The program focuses primarily on improving the production, processing, and marketing of trout and carp species.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and is funded by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of Korea. The mission will last until May 30.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the purpose of the experts’ visit is to identify priority areas for aquaculture development and improve value chains in the trout and carp farming sector. This involves not only fish farming but also improving the efficiency of processing, logistics, feed production, and market access.

As part of the practical component of the mission, the experts have already visited the fish farms of Aqua Prom LLC and Spartak Trout LLC in Tokmok, as well as the fish feed production plant of Tian-Shan Trout LLC in the Panfilov District.

During the visits, the experts examined production processes, assessed the current state of the enterprises, and discussed key challenges facing the industry, including issues related to the feed supply, farming technologies, and improving the profitability of fish farms.

Based on the results of this work, a seminar is planned for May 29 with the participation of government agencies and industry representatives, where the findings of the analysis and proposals for the further development of aquaculture in Kyrgyzstan will be presented.
