The Financial Market Regulation reveals how much electricity miners consumed in 2024–2025

The Financial Market Regulation and Supervision Service has published data on electricity consumption by mining farms in Kyrgyzstan for 2024–2025. This data allows us to assess the scale of the impact of crypto mining on the national energy system.

According to the regulator's report, miners consumed a total of about 218.6 million kWh of electricity in 2024. In 2025, the sector's total energy consumption was about 213.3 million kWh. This is 5.3 million kWh less than a year earlier. At the same time, in the first half of 2025, the load increased significantly, and from May to September, consumption consistently exceeded 20 million kWh per month.

However, at the end of 2025, in November, the energy consumption of mining companies fell to 5.7 million kWh, which is more than three times lower than the average monthly figures. And in December, consumption statistics showed a zero value. As a result, the fourth quarter became the key factor in the overall decline in annual consumption.

The decline in electricity consumption by miners correlates with the statement by President Sadyr Zhaparov about the temporary suspension of mining farms during the winter period. In an interview with the Kabar news agency, the head of state said that there are only two official farms operating in the country — in Kemin and at the Kambar-Ata-2 hydroelectric power plant, both with a capacity of 30 MW and under state control.

According to the president, the Solarcoin farm in Kemin uses only electricity imported from Russia and does not consume resources from the national power grid. The second farm is located at the Kambar-Ata hydroelectric power plant. Despite the economic efficiency of the projects, both sites were temporarily shut down during the cold season for socio-political reasons.

In a broader context, the impact of crypto mining on the country's energy balance remains limited. With annual electricity consumption in Kyrgyzstan at 19.3 billion kWh in 2025, mining accounted for about 1.1%. This means that, despite local load peaks, mining is not a systemic factor for the republic's energy sector. Its contribution is significantly lower than that of industry, the utilities sector, and the population.

It should be noted that, while having virtually no impact on the country's energy system, miners paid over 206 million KGS in taxes to the budget.
