At a press conference held at the mayor's office, Deputy Mayor Azamat Kadyrov, Chief Architect of the Capital Meder Kydyrmayev, his First Deputy Aziret Akimov, and a representative of the Russian designer, Evgeny Zhuravsky from the Research Institute for Prospective Urban Development (St. Petersburg).
The main focus of the new urban development strategy is ecology and the quality of the urban environment. According to the project, the area of green spaces in Bishkek is planned to be increased from the current 590 hectares to 2,110 hectares, i.e., 3.5 times. At the same time, 1,520 hectares will be occupied by new parks and squares, which will become part of the city's “green framework” system.
In addition to greening, the Master Plan provides for the construction of a tram network, the reconstruction of more than 650 social infrastructure facilities, the development of the IT sector, a fashion cluster, a “Jewelry Valley,” as well as the introduction of green technologies and the reindustrialization of industrial zones.
The new Master Plan is designed for the foreseeable future, with the capital's population projected to grow to 2 million by 2050, and aims to transform Bishkek into a modern, environmentally friendly, and balanced metropolis.
Public hearings on the project will be held on December 24–25.
