The State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic has detained members of a transnational counterfeiting ring

The State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic has dismantled a transnational criminal group involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit banknotes.

According to the agency, the group operated across several countries and organised the production of high-quality counterfeit banknotes. Distribution took place through an extensive sales network.

During a special operation involving a test purchase, a citizen of Uzbekistan, Y.M.Y., and a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, T.U.A., were detained. A significant quantity of counterfeit foreign currency, as well as other material evidence, was discovered and seized from them.

A criminal case has been initiated under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The detainees have been placed in the GKNB detention centre. Investigative measures are currently underway to identify all participants in the scheme and the channels through which the counterfeit money was distributed.

The GKNB has urged citizens to be vigilant when conducting financial transactions and to report suspicious banknotes to the law enforcement authorities.
