State Tax Service thwarts illegal import of cigarettes

Officers from the State Tax Service of the Kyrgyz Republic, whilst conducting a spot tax inspection at the ‘Chon-Kapka’ checkpoint, uncovered the illegal import of tobacco products without excise stamps.

As a result of the inspection, a vehicle was stopped; during the search, 950 cartons (9,500 packets) of ‘Oris’ cigarettes without excise stamps or accompanying documents were found in a hidden compartment in the cargo area.

The case materials and the seized goods have been handed over to the law enforcement authorities for legal assessment and the taking of appropriate measures in accordance with the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic.

It should be noted that the sale and transport of tobacco and alcohol products without excise stamps constitutes a serious violation of tax legislation. Efforts to detect the illegal circulation of excise goods continue on a regular basis throughout the country.
