The Jogorku Kenesh has approved measures to streamline public procurement

Today, 19 March, members of the Jogorku Kenesh passed the first reading of a bill ‘On Amendments to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On Public Procurement”’.

The document was initiated by the Prime Minister. The bill was presented by Deputy Minister of Finance Nurbek Akzholov. He noted that the amendments are aimed at simplifying public procurement procedures, introducing best practices and reducing the risk of corruption.

Under the draft law, it is planned to remove all references to ‘consultancy services’ and ‘consultants’ from the law, as well as to repeal Articles 30–42, which regulate the procurement of consultancy services.

In addition, at today’s session, MPs approved a bill ratifying an agreement with the Eurasian Development Bank on a road improvement project in Osh, including the construction of two flyover bridges and a 3.2 km stretch of road.
