The Jogorku Kenesh has approved a $19.3 million funding proposal for road reconstruction in Osh

The Jogorku Kenesh Committee on International Affairs, Defence, Security and Migration has approved a bill ratifying the agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Eurasian Development Bank on the ‘Improvement of Roads in the City of Osh’ project. The document was considered at its third reading.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Ulukbek Zhanibekov noted that the project involves the construction of two flyover bridges, an overpass across A. Masaliev and V. Lenin Streets, a bridge across the Ak-Buura River, as well as the widening of streets to 4–6 lanes with a central reservation.

The total cost of the project is $19.31 million, of which $14.15 million is a 15-year loan from the EBRD with a 5-year grace period and an interest rate of 1.2%.

MPs noted that the city’s existing road infrastructure is unable to cope with the growth in the number of vehicles and emphasised the importance of modernising the network. The need for comprehensive road development in the regions and border settlements was also highlighted.
