State Development Bank and Project Initiator Agree on Funding for Next Stage of Kulanak Hydropower Plant Construction

The State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic has signed an agreement to finance the next phase of construction of the Kulanak hydroelectric power station in the Naryn region. The project is considered one of the key initiatives for the country’s energy sector and is aimed at increasing domestic generation capacity.

The hydroelectric power station is being built on the Naryn River in the village of Kulanak. Once commissioned, its installed capacity will be 100 MW, and annual electricity generation will reach 435 million kWh. The new plant is expected to improve the reliability of energy supply to households and businesses, as well as increase the volume of environmentally friendly electricity generated.

The State Development Bank noted that support for the project forms part of its work to finance strategically important initiatives. The development of hydropower is seen as one of the factors in strengthening Kyrgyzstan’s energy independence and creating conditions for industrial growth and the country’s long-term economic development.
