Four state institutions in Kyrgyzstan will receive $534,000 to establish forest nurseries

Four state institutions in Kyrgyzstan will receive $534,000 in funding to establish nurseries for growing seedlings and saplings. The funds will be allocated as part of the ‘Sustainability of Regional Pastoral Communities - ADAPT’ project.

The winners of the competitive selection were the Osh Forestry, the Chon-Kemin State Nature Park, Kara-Kulzhin Forestry and Kyrgyz National Agrarian University named after K. Skryabin.

The signing of grant agreements is scheduled for 19 December 2025 at the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry.

A total of 16 applications were submitted for the competition. The main conditions for participation were the availability of a land plot of at least 5 hectares and a developed business plan. The selection was carried out by an interdepartmental commission with the participation of representatives of state bodies, relevant associations and public organisations. The final list of winners was approved by the project donor, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

According to the project documentation, after launch, the four nurseries will be able to produce up to 2 million seedlings of various tree species annually, including nut, fruit, berry and ornamental trees. The products will be available to forestry enterprises, forest users and other interested parties.
